Fall Wedding Necessity: Keeping Warm (but Still Stylish)

Continuing our fashion guide for fall weddings, let’s talk about a very important detail: Staying warm on your big day (and night!)

While covering up that perfect gown you dreamed of for years might sound like the last thing you want to do, it’s important to remember that the evenings are getting chillier and chillier at this time of year. You don’t want your “something blue” to be your freezing cold skin. But in the flurry of picking out shoes, jewelry, a veil, and complementing makeup and hair, you might forget to spend a little time finding a wrap or jacket.

The key here is to find something that keeps you warm but still looks elegant and feels appropriate with your dress. You don’t want to get stuck throwing on an old trench coat or the zip-up bride hoodie you wore for your hair appointment! A few pretty options: A light neutral wrap for an early fall wedding, a cozier fur (or faux fur, if you prefer) jacket for later in the season when the temperatures drop even further, or even a sequined scarf for a touch of evening sparkle.

Fall Weddings: A Fashion Guide

With the crisp air and gorgeous foliage, fall is a beautiful time for weddings. It’s that time of year, so this week we’ll be talking fall fashion for weddings.

An autumn wedding certainly doesn’t need to look like a table set for a traditional Thanksgiving in all orange and brown, but it’s probably best to put aside the bright colors and soft blushes of summer for earthy shades and rich jewel tones. We especially love a luxurious teal or a deep Bordeaux color.

Like this color palette, which features a rich burgundy paired with classic navy, a touch of burnt orange, and a little gold for glamour.

Spotlight on Accessories: The Giving Keys

The perfect gown just wouldn’t be complete without the right accessories. This week, we’re featuring a few of our favorite accessories for brides and beyond.

Our fifth and final pick:

giving keys

Full collection available at The Giving Keys

We spotted these charming key accessories at a trunk show at Bendel’s recently and haven’t stopped thinking about them since. Unique keys with words like “love” and “dream” carved into them are featured on a variety of accessories, including necklaces, rings, and even phone cases.

We love the idea of these romantic, vintage feeling accessories as a gift, especially because of The Giving Keys instructions for using their products: “When you get this key, you must give it away at some point to a person you feel needs the message. Then write us the story of why you gave it away.”

A gift of love that keeps on giving? What could be more perfect for a wedding?

OK, this might not fall under the category of accessories the way we usually think of them, but trust us, this one is important for brides and bridesmaids. While we recommend first and foremost that everyone choose a comfortable shoe, like the Jimmy Choo Nova we featured earlier this week, when you’re standing and dancing all day, you sometimes need a little extra help. This little lifesaver has rescued the feet of many of our brides. Simply apply to the areas of your feet that your shoes might rub against painfully, and blisters will stay away all day. Happy feet, indeed.

Every bride needs a chic little clutch to store her essentials in for the big day, and this sleek mirrored clutch is a perfect choice. It’s simple, elegant, and looks great with practically everything. Plus, its mirrored surface means one less thing to carry: the bag can pull a double function as a handy reflective surface for lipstick reapplications!

This gorgeous pair of shoes is what the large majority of our brides end up choosing for their wedding day, and we can’t recommend it highly enough. The four inch heel gives a considerable boost in height, which we find many women want on their wedding day, but the platform keeps the shoes incredibly comfortable at the same time–a necessity for all brides who will be on their feet all day celebrating! Plus, the metallic champagne color looks perfect with practically every dress. We really think this might be the perfect wedding shoe!

It’s no surprise that a Vera Wang dress is one of our picks for red carpet bridal inspiration. And for a bride looking to show off her shapely curves, this dress is an amazing option. The modern lines are super sexy, but it still feels romantic enough for a wedding.

Emmy Trends We Hope to See at Bridal Market: Michelle Dockery in Prada

Who watched the Emmys on Sunday night? We did, and we found plenty of bridal inspiration from the gowns of the best women in television. This week we’re featuring four looks we loved on the red carpet, and why we hope to see similar looks at Bridal Market soon.

Our second pick: Michelle Dockery in Prada

In its bold red and burgundy hues, this choice might not seem as obvious for bridal inspiration as yesterday’s gorgeous Monique Lhuillier on Julia Louis-Dreyfus, but hear us out. We’d love to see this Prada gown in paler, more bridal shades of ivory and cream. So many brides today are asking for dramatic low backs, and this dress is all drama–but the full skirt would still make you feel like a bride.

And just for fun, wouldn’t it be great if you could remove the skirt to reveal a shorter one underneath?

What do you think of the idea of this dress in lighter shades?
