Ring Bearer Attire

At The Stylish Bride, I often face the challenge of how to dress the Ring Bearer for a formal wedding.  It’s a tough one, because there are so many factors to consider: 1) what will go with the overall look of the wedding 2) what the groomsmen are wearing 3) what the little boy will actually wear 4) not spending a ton of money on something he will never wear again.

The obvious choice would be a little tuxedos, but for this wedding they wanted the boys in something a bit more youthful.  Enter the Eaton suit. This darling little black velvet outfit from The Best Dressed Child was the perfect choice for their ring bearers.  Paired with white knee socks and black shoes, they looked absolutely darling!!!

Tips for a Pierre Wedding

Instead of our usual Wednesday theme of “Ask Julie” I thought it would be fun to “Ask Leslie Mastin“, the amazing event planner that we are featuring this week.

Here are her Tips for getting married at The Pierre:

1) Utilize Central Park for Photos: One of the many amazing features about getting married at The Pierre is the location directly across from Central Park.  Even if you can’t go into the park for photos, many of the rooms have views which can be a lovely back drop.

 2) Hot Fudge Sundae: Don’t miss the hot fudge sundae complete with chocolate dripping down the sides. Yum!

3) The Suite Life:  If you can, book the bridal suite for two nights so you can enjoy waking up there and getting ready.  They do a wonderful job catering breakfast and lunch en-suite for the bridal party.

4) Stop in for a Drink:  Sometime during the planning process, make time for a drink at The Pierre’s hotel bar, Two E.  Not only do they make a fantastic martini, but they have great bar snacks too!  It’s not to be missed!

5) Bath time!: One of my favorite things in the world is a great bath, and the Pierre has the most amazing tubs and bath products. When you wake up on your wedding morning, treat yourself to a bubble bath to start the pampering.

The Pierre Bridesmaid Style

How to dress the bridesmaids is always something that my clients agonize over.  It’s such a difficult decision because the bride wants them to look and feel great, but the choices are somewhat limited. Continuing our feature of The Pierre Hotel and Leslie Mastin Events, we are going to talk about how to dress your bridesmaids for a formal New York City wedding.

I know that you have heard me say this before, but I will make no secrets of the fact that I prefer long bridesmaid dresses. To me, they give a much more polished and classic look.  You don’t have to worry about the dresses all being hemmed to the same point on each bridesmaid, and what her shoes look like. Also, long bridesmaid dresses are more formal than short, so for this wedding they were the perfect choice.

Mary, our lovely bride above, wanted to do something long and cream.  In theory, she like the idea of each bridesmaid having their own dress style, but she was concerned that it would look messy. Ultimately, she decided on the Aidan dress by Jenny Yoo that allowed the bridesmaids to all look the same, but with a twist.  This dress is fantastic for several reasons:

1) The shape is great, and flattering on many different body types

2) It comes in a slew of different colors of Luxe Chiffon

3) It’s a convertable dress that can be worn over 15 different ways!  This is accomplished with two chiffon panels of fabric on the front and back of the dress that can be concocted into many beautiful styles.

My advice for having this turn out well is to know the style each bridesmaid is going to wear ahead of time, and have it perfected. That way, no one is figuring it out during the rush of getting ready.

Here is a great chart from their website that illustrates many of the different ways it can be worn:

One Skirt, Two Ways!

We are ending our week at the amazing Peninsula Chicago with one skirt, two ways! A big thank you to the Peninsula, Chicago for allowing us to feature their beautiful property. Today we have an amazing Roberto Cavalli printed crepe de chine maxi skirt. This blue and white printed skirt can be dressed down or up. We think the print is perfect for a Sunday farewell brunch. For our casual look we paired the skirt with a simple James Perse white t-shirt and Valentino studded metallic leather sandals. We kept the accessories simple with a Lanvin pewter cuff and crystal cocktail ring. Our dressy version for the skirt involves the same print in the top and blazer. The accessories are simple Jimmy Choo Lance metallic leather sandals and Maison Martin Margiela silver-tone crystal ring. What is your favorite piece? Is the dressy version too much with the print?

The Peninsula Chicago Rehersal Dinner

Today we are inspired by the beautiful outdoor terrace at The Peninsula Chicago, the perfect venue for a rehearsal dinner underneath the stars. What could be more beautiful than a formal sit down dinner in amidst the skyline of downtown Chicago?!? The outfit takes inspiration from the beautiful colors that are everywhere this spring: pinks, greens, and yellows. Our favorite piece is the Stella McCartney jacket paired with Stella McCartney crepe flared pants. What is your favorite piece? Isn’t the jacket incredible!

Dealing with Carpet for your White Carpet moment

When deciding on where the hem of a dress should fall, most people do it by sight and like it just above skimming the floor. But there is actually a lot of room for interpretation. Sometimes, the client wants it a bit shorter if she knows she’s prone to tripping, or sometimes they want it as long as possible.

Of course it is important to get it where it looks best, but something most people don’t consider is whether or not the dress will be worn on carpet. This has a big impact on where the dress should fall because when you walk (even on low pile) carpeting you sink just a bit into it. If the hem of your dress is skimming a hard floor in the fitting, it will most certainly get caught on the pile when you walk.

My advice: make it just a quarter of an inch higher so that you won’t be dealing with friction when walking.  There is nothing worse than having to lift up your hem all night.

The Peninsula Chicago Bridesmaid Style

We are back at the fantastic Peninsula Chicago to talk about the bridesmaid’s style. As we showcased yesterday, the bride is wearing a gorgeous Monique Lhuillier gown. Today our bridesmaids are wearing an Alice and Olivia sequin ball gown. We just love the metallic textured taffeta and the sequined bodice. Together they create a voluminous and beautiful dress that is perfect for a ballroom reception. The accessories are understated and simple playing off the metallic tones in the dress. What is your favorite piece?

The Peninsula Chicago

This week we are featuring another one of our friends from the Engage12 conference, and heading to Chicago’s Peninsula Hotel on the Magnificent Mile.  When I think of a Chicago wedding, I think of a traditional black-tie affair that is the epitome of understated elegance. In Chicago, there are few better places to do that than The Peninsula’s Grand Ballroom with floor to ceiling windows and breathtaking views. The Peninsula prides it’s self on incredible service and providing a relaxing environment for its guests.  To us, it sounds like a wonderful place to check in for the weekend and get away from it all!

We love Monique Lhuillier’s “Candice” gown for it’s long sleeves and demure lacy sexiness.  Sometimes the most alluring thing can be to show nothing except the shape of a woman. This dress does just that with it’s slim column silhouette and long sleeves.  The detachable sheer skirt gives the bride a more traditional and voluminous look for going down the aisle and then a sophisticated dress for the reception. We would suggest changing up your hair and accessories to really make the two looks different and distinct.

Hamptons Bridesmaids Style

We are back at the Hamptons where the sands and beach have inspired today’s bridesmaids look. We have kept it simple with a gorgeous J. Crew Lucienne One-Shoulder dress in silk chiffon.  We think the pleating on the bodice with flouncy skirt would look beautiful amongst any backdrop in the Hamptons. The accessories are low key with amazing Oscar de la Renta Hudson metallic leather multi-strap sandals in a hint of sliver to play with the Casablanca blue of the bridesmaids dress. The other silver accessories are the Kotur clutch, J. Crew Flower Lattice necklace, J.Crew Crystal Crush bracelet, and J. Crew Martha bracelet. What do you think of the look?

Hampton Wedding Inspiration

This week we are focused on the The Hamptons as inspiration for our wedding attire. The Hamptons are the epitome of chic, country, and New York sophistication. When we think of The Hamptons, we think beautiful beaches, lush lawns, and gorgeous estates that are the perfect balance of country and chic.  Hosting your reception in a tent gives you a blank canvas and lets you decide on everything from carpet to chandeliers! Here are some snapshots of The Hamptons and reception tents for inspiration. We think the perfect dress for a tented backyard wedding is this beautiful Carolina Herrera gown.  It is classic, chic, and has a touch of sparkle making it the perfect compliment.
